Today we are continuing our series on Dynamic Duos. Here is a review from part I:
- • The couple (marriage) was instituted by God Himself
- • When the couple is strong, the family is strong. When the family is strong, the church is strong.
- • God’s priority for the couple is that they would be the foundational building block to society.
- • God’s plan was that they would compliment one another.
- • God’s purpose is that it would reflect His image to the world.
- • However, the satan has a strategy to destroy the family unit, beginning with the marriage.
- • It is important that we view marriage in the same lens that God does.
Today we are in part 2 of this series. Our focus will be on Abraham and Sarah. With it being Mother’s Day, we will also be spotlighting Sarah as the mother of the faith.
As of today, there are more than 2.5 billion Christians around the world. Most of them residing in Africa, Latin America, parts of Asia, along with America. Christianity is recognized today as the largest religion in the world. Christianity is responsible for:
- • Establishing college and universities
- • Pioneering hospitals around the world, food banks, shelters, orphanages
- • Christian leaders have played key roles in social reform here in our country and around the world
- • Responsible for sending missionaries to different countries to meet the needs of different people groups and reaching them with the gospel
- • Has had a massive impact on moral and ethical values that we hold dear to in our families today

That is incredible!
As incredible as this is, it all began with two people with a promise; that is Abraham and Sarah. While the hope and faith we have today was made possible through the grace and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, it all began with the faith of this couple. We must remember that the blessings we enjoy today were made possible by the sacrifices of those who came before us.
This is also true for mothers. Much of what we have today is due to a mother:
- - The faith we have
- - The values we have
- - The life we have
And this is true for Abraham and Sarah. Let’s take a look today at the dynamic duo of Abraham and Sarah.
Genesis 12:1-3
“The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.””
Abraham and Sarah were pioneers of the faith, for their own family and for generations to come. So how did it come about that way?
- 1. They were called
Genesis 12:1 - “The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.” - • God calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
- • Abraham and Sarah were ordinary people
- - There was nothing flashy about them:
3 / 6
- - No royal bloodlines. No massive following.
- - Yet, God called these ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
- • However, God was calling them to be something extraordinary
- • Like Abraham and Sarah, we too are ordinary people who have been called to do extraordinary things.
- • Mothers: Moms are known for being ordinary women who become extraordinary for their families and people around them.
- - The calling of a mother is a real thing
- - Moms know how to step up to the plate to be extraordinary for their family.
- 2. They took a step of faith
Genesis 12:4 - “So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed.” - • Abram and Sarah did what God asked them to do (Genesis 12:4)
- • They took a major step of faith
Hebrews 11:8 - “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” - • It says that they had no idea where they were going. They didn’t know what to expect. All they had was a promise from God. They chose to trust God and they followed Him.
- • There are times in life when we to are called upon to do extraordinary things and to be extraordinary. However, that is the “calling” of God. We still have to trust God and obey His word.
- • There will come a time where we will have to take a step of faith; not just once in your life by the way. The only way to make it to the other side is through our faith in God.
- • Mothers: Abraham wasn’t the only one who took a step of faith, Sarah did as well. She walked the same miles, slept in the same tent, and faced the same uncertainties. Even though she wasn’t perfect,

- even though she stumbled in moments in doubt, she kept walking forward.
- • There are times moms when you have had to take a step of faith and walk in uncertain territory for your family. You didn’t have all the answers, but you kept moving forward by faith.
- • You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to continue to walk with God in faith and continue answering the call to be extraordinary for your family.
- 3. They were steadfast through trial
Hebrews 11:11 - “And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.” - • The 11th chapter of Hebrews is known as the hall of faith. In it are men and women of God listed who set a great example of faith in God.
- • Sarah gets her own mention in the faith hall of fame. Why? Because she chose to believe God and His faithfulness through the times of difficulty.
- • It’s easy to trust God when things are going well. It not as easy when things are not going your way.
- • If we are not careful, we will look at our circumstances and think there is something wrong with us. However…
Faith is not about how strong we are—it’s about how faithful He is. - • Sarah trusted God for the impossible.
- • Her womb was closed, her age was advanced, but her God was able.
- • Faith is not about our capacity—it’s about His character.

- • Mothers: Not everyone knows the struggles you have gone through, the prayers that you have prayed, the promises of God that you have been holding onto. Not everyone knows, but God knows.
- • You may not see a way, you may not see how, but God is able because God is a Way-Maker.
- 4. They left a legacy
Hebrews 11:12 - “And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.” - • God wanted to do something for Abraham and Sarah. However, it was bigger than just them. God didn’t only want to bless Abraham and Sarah, He wanted them to be a blessing to many.
- • God wants to do something in you, but He doesn’t want it to stop with you.
- • God is always looking to do something through you because He wants what He is doing to outlast you.
- • What God did for Abraham and Sarah was much bigger then them, it was about what He was doing for generations to come.
- • God is always looking to partner with someone who is willing to trust Him. Why? Because He is looking for someone to start with.
- • What God did with Abraham and Sarah may have started with them, but it didn’t end with them.
- • Similarly, what God is doing in your life, He does not intend for it to stop with you. His hope is that it is just the beginning. Whether that be in your family, workplace, relationships, etc.
- • Abraham and Sarah were pioneers of the faith. First-generation believers. God used them to start something that would outlive them by thousands of years. The impact of their obedience has echoed through every continent.
- • Mothers: Never underestimate your legacy. What you do, what you say, pray, your investment, all of your tears, all of your sleepless

- nights, it is producing fruit that will outlive you. Regardless of the role you play as a mother, know that you making eternal investments that will outlast you when you are gone.
Closing thoughts:
- I. For everyone here: God is calling ordinary people like you and me to do extraordinary things for Him. Like Abraham and Sarah, you and I have a chance to trust God and ultimately make a difference that lasts a lifetime.
- II. To the mothers: Today, we honor you. As you trust in God, you are like modern-day Sarahs— women of God who’s faith and hope in the Lord is shaping the future of many. Know that what you do is not wasted. Do not underestimate your legacy. Thank you for all that you do!
- III. To all the families: You might be the first generation in your family to walk with the Lord. What a wonderful opportunity you have to be a pioneer for your family. What God is doing you is not meant to stop with you, but to live on beyond you.
