The Common Prayers Of A Spirit Filled Christian

Gtcotr/ws090303

I. Luke 11

1 ¶ And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

A. Thus Far We Have Learned

1. Jesus went from the place of prayer to the place of prayer and in between He worked miracles.

2. This passage is Jesus teaching His disciples how to pray.

* There are several spiritual expressions

> thanksgiving

> worship

> prophecy

> professions of faith

> prayer

1 Timothy 2:1 ¶ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

3. Jesus Prayed

* “To God For … “

* Prayer directed to others is not supported by scriptures.

* “Praying against” is not a concept found in the bible.

4. The best way to defeat the devil

* Live a pure life

* Then

* Do not be ignorant of his purposes

2 Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

* Next: Give him no place to work in your life.

Eph 4

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

27 Neither give place to the devil.

28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

1 ¶ Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

2 And walk in love,

* Finally: Resist every attempt and temptation of the devil to stray.

1 Peter 5

8 ¶ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

II. Some Common Prayers Of The Spirit Filled Christian

A. The Prayer Of Binding & Loosing

1. Matthew 16 & Matthew 18

2. Whatever you bind/loose on earth is to be that which is already bound/loosed in heaven.

3. Luke 11:2c … Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

B. The Prayer Of Petition (asking God for some want, need or intervention)

1. Recognition - Our Father … Hallowed Be Thy Name

2. Submission - Thy Kingdom, Thy Will

3. Petition

Luke 11:3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4. Jesus prayed this way

Luke 22

40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

5. Even Solomon prayed this way 2 Chronicles 6:14ff

III. Approaching God For What You Will

A. From A Welcomed Position Of Relationship

1. A Right Relationship

2. Righteous people have a watching, listening God.

2 Chronicles 6:40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

2 Chronicles 7:15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

Psalms 34:15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

3. The Prayer Of A Righteous Man

James 5:16b The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

B. Submitted To His Will

1. Ask In Accordance With The Known Will

Or

2. Ask To Know The Will

1 John 5

14 ¶ And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

3. Submitted even in conversation & declaration

James 4

13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

C. Content With His Answer

1. Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

2. 2 Corinthians 12

7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

Paul found a way to accept the will of God as right for his life even when it brought hardship and difficulty that he would have otherwise cast off.

Many people can feel like they have a:

Blind

Deaf

Stupid

God.

But

God sees all

God hears all

God knows all

He has the best plan, the best idea, the best way, the perfect answer, even when it is no or wait. He alone is God!

What right does the thing that is made have to say to the maker, you cannot make me thus.

Godliness with contentment is great gain.
