Poem (6/28/95, 11:10am - Ron Hammonds)

There is a kingdom without a cross

There is a gain which equals loss

Do well to see the matter clear

Lest Satan grips your mind with fear

To take the way which Christ refused

Embracing gain you’re sure to lose

Or else stand tall and slay the voice

And choose the cross, your King’s own choice.

You gain a life no one regrets

Once woes are past with fear and frets

So say yourself, “I’ll not be lost …

I’ll have no kingdom where there’s no cross!”

The Nobel Christian

I. Acts 17:1-12

1 ¶ Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

10 ¶ And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

II. The Nobel Christian

A. Eagerly Listens To The Word Of God - and then -

B. Searches The Scriptures For Himself

III. This I Do & This I Have Found True

A. Salvation is:

1. To All Who Believe In Jesus

2. Supplied by Grace

3. Appropriated through Faith

4. Last for an eternity

5. Is all a person needs to get into heaven

B. Water Baptism is:

1. An emersion of this temple which I have offered to God for His service

2. An identification with the covenant of burial & resurrection

3. A conscious cleansing witness to my separation and dedication to Christ.

C. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is:

1. An experience secondary and subsequent to Salvation

2. An unleashing of the potential of the power of God to man

3. For those who ask and obey

D. Growing Up In Christ from Saints to Servants to Sons

1. Difficult to keep in focus in the face of this world’s draw

2. Takes An Abiding Commitment To God’s Word & Discipleship

3. Each individual’s responsibility

4. Few find and walk that narrow way

E. Any of these, except salvation, can be left out, put off or reordered either by God or by the individual.

1. Each Christian’s Life Story is A Script that only God can write 2. Every person deserves a prescription directly from the hand of God

3. No man can be your God, your Savior or your Guide

This is what I believe …

You have been eager and listened intently … now …
