Lesson: A Lot Can Happen in 3 Days
Pastor remarks and intro of first point
First Point: What seems like a surprise to you is often a plan to God.
Scripture Reference: Proverbs 16:9 A man's heart deviseth his way:
but the Lord directeth his steps.
- · The disciples had a reasonable and justifiable expectation of victory based on their interpretation of scripture and their history.
- · It was Passover … the celebration of a great victory, where
God had delivered His children from their enemies.
- · All of Israel was looking for the Messiah. They believed Jesus
was the One.
- ·
What better way for God to show the Jews that Jesus was
their promised Deliverer than to publicly deliver Him from the cross to begin
the Passover and make Him King.
- ·
But it did not happen … their expectations were destroyed.
- ·
They were shocked; numb; devastated; and surprised … the
first day.
Discussion Question: What do you think the disciples did at the end of the first day?
Pastor remarks and intro of second point
Second Point: While we are waiting, God is working.
Scripture Reference: Colossians 2:15 And
having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly,
triumphing over them in it.
- · The Disciples were afraid; alone; discouraged; withdrawn;
depressed; in disbelief; consumed with uncertainty; dealing with death; filled
with regrets.
- · While Jesus was fighting the battle for them.
Discussion Topic: Describe what day two must have looked like in the upper room.
Pastor remarks and intro of third point
Third Point: Sunday is Coming.
Scripture Reference: John
20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the
doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came
Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
- · On the third day, Jesus walked from the tomb victorious over death, hell, and the grave.
- · All day long and into the evening people witnessed to the
Disciples and tried to tell them everything was okay … they wouldn’t believe it
until they saw it for themselves.
- · No doubt they had all been through a wide range of emotions.
- ·
Their expectations were devastated, and their hopes were
crushed.
- ·
They spent three days in agony, feeling defeated, even
though they weren’t.
- · A lot can happen in three days.
Discussion Question: On what victory are you now waiting?
