Lesson: The Roman Road

Pastor Ron’s remarks and intro of first principle

First Principle: No one’s perfect.
Scripture Reference: Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Every person was born into sin and no one is perfect.
Question: Is it possible for someone to be perfect on their own?
Follow up Question: What are some common sins that people often overlook?
Conclusion: Every person has sinned and fallen short of God’s commandments. No one can qualify for heaven on their own merit. Our only hope is that God would be merciful and gracious to forgive us our sinful debt through our faith in His Son.

Pastor Ron’s remarks and intro of second principle

Second Principle: God can fix anything.
Scripture Reference: Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Everyone deserves to go to hell but they don’t have to.
Only God could have made a way.
Question: Describe the concept of receiving wages.
Follow Up Question: What does it mean to receive a gift?
Conclusion: Since God can fix the problem with sin, He can also fix everything else. We often deserve much worse than we receive because of God’s goodness, His mercy, and His grace. God’s grace makes the gift of salvation possible.

Pastor Ron’s remarks and intro of third principle

Third Principle: All you need to do is ask.
Scripture Reference: Romans 10:13 For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.
A free gift is not free if it costs you anything.
God offers a free gift of eternal life … if we ask.
Question: How can it be this simple?
Follow Up Question: Why doesn’t everyone ask?
Conclusion: The Bible says we have not because we ask not, but, if we ask we would receive and our joy would be full. Scriptures continue to tell us that people will not ask for something they do not know about and people cannot know unless someone will tell them.
