Pentecost

Pentecost

Gtcotr/ws052307

Today begins the Feast of Weeks or Shavuot which is Pentecost. This is the time celebrated by the Jews commemorating God giving the Law to Israel on Mount Sinai. It also has a very significant correlation to us Believers who know it as the Day of Pentecost.

Key Scripture: Deuteronomy 16: 16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty (KJV)

Feast of Unleavened Bread – Passover – Salvation

Feast of Weeks – Pentecost – Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Feast of Tabernacles – In Gathering – Full Maturity/Rapture

In the New Testament our Lord talked about the reproductive capability of the good Word of God in the hearts of men. Some reproduce 30, some 60 and some 100 fold, coinciding with salvation, baptism of the Holy Spirit and full maturity in Christ will happen to most people at their personal ingathering to Him.

Furthermore Jesus spoke more about this subject in:

Mark 4 KJV

26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

Again we see the three levels or there glories of man.

2 Corinthians 3:18 “… are changed into the same image from glory to glory …”

Even the natural man uses steps to get from one place or one level to another. This is also true with the spirit man. As we are on our journey from birth to maturity in Christ, we progress from one level of growth and relationship to another along a predestined pathway.

It begins with Salvation. This is enough to get us to heaven and to miss an eternity in hell. However, we need power and greater gifting of God to deal with the hell of this life.

Lets look at the scriptures concerning this Baptism of the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost, whichever you prefer … it is the same.

Acts 1

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Acts 2

1 ¶ And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 8

5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.

6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.

7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

8 And there was great joy in that city.

9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:

10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.

11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.

12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

14 ¶ Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,

19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10

44 ¶ While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Acts 19

1 ¶ And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

Is It For Everyone

Acts 2

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

How Do You Get It

Acts 5

32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Luke 11

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

What Do You Get

Luke 24

49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

Acts 1

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

This is what John The Baptist was trying to tell everyone:

Luke 3

16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is for every Believer. This step into God’s greater will and purpose for life gives the Believer a supernatural power to be an effective witness for Christ.

Some instances in scripture show people receiving the Holy Spirit at salvation before water baptism while others received the Holy Spirit after being water baptized. Some had hands laid on them while others did not. It seems like God wants to be God and pours out His Spirit on those who are willing and ready vessels.

There is no doubt that the Holy Spirit was sent on the day of Pentecost to birth the church in Jerusalem then to Samaria next to birth the church there. Then, as a reflection of Acts 1:8 and the great commission, Acts 10 shows the Holy Spirit being poured out on the Gentiles as the Church is birthed to the uttermost parts of the world. If the Baptism occurrences would have stopped there, it could be argued that the commission had been fulfilled, however, we see again in Acts 19 another incident of people being baptized in the Holy Spirit accompanied by speaking in tongues and prophecy.

It is true that the Holy Spirit was given to birth the Church however, the Church must be birthed in each heart and every generation. This Promise of the Father is to you, to your children and your children’s children, to as many as are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call!

Believe and receive today. Lets pray!
