The Law of Preparedness

Gtcotr/ss111118

Today is Veteran’s Day 2018. I would like to recognize each veteran of our US military and thank them for their service. I am a veteran of the USAF and I am proud to be an American. Freedom is not free … God bless America and God bless our Veterans. Thank you for your service.

We will never catch God unprepared for what we do.

Today we will discuss the importance of being prepared. In order to discover the truth God wants to reveal today, we are going to look at the lives of three individuals spoken of in the Bible. It is my hope that I can adequately represent God’s desire for us to always be prepared.

The First Person: Abraham
·        About 2000BC
·        The setting …
o   The plains of Mamre near the city of Hebron in the Land of Canaanites.
·        The Story …

Genesis 14
14  And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
15  And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
16  And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

What do these verses teach us about the necessity of being prepared?
·        Evidently Abraham had spent time and money preparing for war.
o   He trained 318 servants – He spent time
o   Abraham had an arsenal ready – He spent resources
·        These 318 men did what 5 Kings and their armies could not do …
o   Why?
o   They were “Born in the house”
The truth is:
We must prepare for war in the time of peace.

The Second Person to demonstrate God’s law preparedness: Joseph

Genesis 41
34  “Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, to collect one-fifth of the produce of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.
35  “And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
36  “Then that food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land may not perish during the famine.”

53  Then the seven years of plenty which were in the land of Egypt ended,
54  and the seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said. The famine was in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

The truth is:
We must prepare for famine in the years of plenty.

The Third Person is You. Did you know that the Bible speaks about you and the necessity of being prepared?

The truth is:
We must prepare for heaven while living here on earth.

The Roman’s Road to Salvation helps us to better understand God’s plan for every life.
1.   Romans 3:23  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;
2.  Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
3.   Romans 10:13  For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Just as we must prepare for war in the time of peace and prepare for famine in the years of plenty, we must also prepare for heaven while living here on the earth.

Are you prepared?
