Hymn: Micah 6:7-8/Majesty
Memory Verse: Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.
And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God.
Lesson: Walking by Faith
Pastor remarks and intro of first principle
First Principle: We need to hear.
Scripture Reference: Luke 5:15 However, the
report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came
together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.
How
shall they know unless they be told?
In
order for anyone to hear someone has to tell.
Question: In order for the
crowds to be healed from their infirmities they first had to hear. What was it
they heard?
Follow Up Question: Share and discuss some times
in your life when you heard from God before you received.
Conclusion: It is imperative
that we hear the Good News because faith comes by hearing the Word of God. It
is also important that we share the Word of God with others so that they might
also hear and have the opportunity to respond in faith. Romans 10:17 So then
faith comes by
hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Pastor remarks and intro of second
principle
Second Principle: We must verbalize
our faith.
Scripture Reference: Romans 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto
righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
God
showed us the importance of verbalizing our faith when He said, “Let there be
light.”
Question: List and discuss
occasions from the Bible when others verbalized their faith.
Follow Up Question: Share and discuss occasions
in your life when you or someone you know verbalized faith.
Conclusion: A spiritual power
likened unto that power which created the universe is released when we
verbalize the Word of God with passion and conviction. Death and life are in
the power of the tongue and every man is filled with the fruits of his
heartfelt confessions.
Pastor remarks and intro of third principle
Third Principle: Take action.
Scripture
Reference: James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
God
expects us to put feet to our faith as doers of the Word and not hearers only.
We
deceive ourselves when we think hearing or talking the Word is enough.
Question: What are some areas
in our daily lives where God expects us to take action?
Follow Up Question: How can we better
identify the areas that need action?
Conclusion: The book of James
says that faith without works is dead. If Noah would have heard God, believed
God, and even told others about the coming flood but had built no boat, he
would have perished without taking action.
